PRAU by JEAN VENGUA

JEFF HARRISON Engages

Prau by Jean Vengua
(Meritage Press, San Francisco & St. Helena, 2007)

[each line below is an excerpt from JV's Prau]

in spaces within
the story of
these emptied parts
are
amnesias

movement of parts

figures
cast themselves out
the hundred rooms mansion
amnesias
fill up space
not enough

straw doll
rag doll
from dawn
fashioned

gothic
flowering into
ghosts
drifting across the cornea

hollows pouring into the eyes

ghosts
return to the hundred rooms mansion
styx flowing under
old boats, barkentines, praus

poetry,
i kiss your hand
i'd howl too if i could
smooth words
for gradual hollowed out

isn't that enough
